Spouses
In addition to legally married couples, the Australian Immigration system also recognises defacto couples which, under recent Immigration changes, also includes same sex couples. Evidence to support the long term exclusive nature of the relationships must be provided.
Australia is a world leader in offering full work rights to the accompanying spouses of temporary resident visa holders. In the age of dual career families, this alleviates much of the stress for the individuals concerned and for companies involved in moving key personnel around the world.
Although spouses are accorded full work rights, this does not guarantee that work will be found in the preferred occupation. Considerable research therefore needs to be undertaken relating to the acceptability of the spouse’s qualifications before coming to Australia.
